Message From The Chair

Tom EnglishIn March 2009 British Columbia joined Ontario as the only other Canadian jurisdiction to have a Health Professions Review Board (the Review Board). The Review Board deals with complaints from affected persons in relation to decisions made by any of the 20 Colleges in BC established for different health related occupations that are designated under the Health Professions Act and currently subject to review by the Health Professions Review Board.

Although an adjudicative decision making process is available, the Review Board will in the first instance attempt to achieve resolution of the outstanding issues by different forms of alternative dispute resolution. Failing resolution, a court-like decision will be rendered.

The Review Board consists of 18 BC citizens from various occupational fields from across the Province who all have a history of serving their respective communities in various ways. The Review Board's collective goals are to be independent, transparent and respectful.

The Review Board has a further obligation to develop and publish guidelines and recommendations for the purpose of assisting Colleges to establish and employ registration, inquiry and discipline procedures that are transparent, objective, impartial and fair.  This the Review Board will do in consultation with the Colleges, registrants and other interested parties.

Respectfully submitted
